While the warm weather that’s now settling over Calgary is certainly welcome after several months of frigid, freezing temperatures, not all aspects of the melting snow are good. You’ve undoubtedly noticed a build-up of snow, slush, mud, dirt, and salt on your car – especially with the record-breaking dumps of snow we’ve gotten already in 2018 – and all of the grit, moisture, and corrosive minerals that coat your car’s components can spell big trouble down the road. But you probably already knew all of that. What you might not be aware of is the effect that de-icing agents have on your vehicle as well.
Different from just salt and gravel, de-icing agents are preventative solutions that are applied to road surfaces around the city in anticipation of snowy conditions. While this is a great idea for keeping your tires from slipping, it’s not so good for the metal that makes up your chassis and panels! In Calgary, the solution is composed of calcium chloride, and snow and ice stand little chance of resisting it…but neither does your car’s finish, especially in the spring. As the molecules from the salts dissolve into the meltwater, and the temperatures get warmer and more reaction-friendly, it makes rust nearly impossible to avoid and very quick to take hold. You can have hundreds of dollars’ worth of damage after a single year, and noticeable structural and panel rusting after just a few more.
And just in case you’re tempted to think that it’s only exposed metal that you need to worry about – the same chemical processes that wreak havoc with rust can break their way through factory clearcoats as well! As the salt reacts with environmental water over time, it creates a mild acidic effect that will eventually discolor, fade, and destroy a regular clearcoat. And once that happens, it’s not long before the metal beneath falls victim, too.
If you’re serious about preventing rust on your vehicle, then having a strong layer between the salty water outside and the metal down beneath your paint is the best way to do that. Luckily, at SR International, we carry a full selection of car protection coatings and vehicle films that offer superior protection across the body of your car or truck! Different than a simple wax, these coatings are molecularly bonded to your finish at a microscopic level, filling in the gaps that would otherwise allow harmful water and ions in. Having one of these Titanium or Ceramic treatments done can not only save you money on rusting, fading, and discoloration down the road, but it will help your paint keep its shine, protect from chips and scratches, and defend against the onslaught of natural debris, like bird or tree droppings, that every vehicle faces in its lifetime. And the best part? They need no maintenance, they are easy to clean, and they cannot be removed by simply washing the car, like wax. All of this adds up to one of the most effective rust-prevention treatments out there!

Beware car coating companies that mislead you.
Imagine that you’ve just dropped some money on a brand-new coating for your car – one of those fancy “9H” layers that you’ve heard about. So you take your wheels to the car wash to make it shine, and before you even leave the wash bay, you realize that you’ve already got some scratches wearing through
Don’t let this happen to you! It pays to know what you’re dealing with when you’re talking about available coatings.
9H is often touted as a magical, quick solution that will protect your vehicle from everything short of a head-on collision, but this is not necessarily the case. For many coatings, even using a dirty cloth or brush – which can have particles, sand, dirt, or other debris stuck inside – can lead to scratches and scuffs if they are used on the paint. And furthermore, the coatings are not nearly as tough or durable as many shops lead you to believe: while many shops mislead their customers by claiming that 9H refers to the Moh’s Scale of Hardness – meaning the coating is nearly as hard as diamonds – they are simply scratch-resistant, not scratch-proof, and are about as hard as the graphite in a 9H pencil.
Now, to be fair, it is harder than a regular clear coat that comes on the car from the dealership…but if you want true traffic and weather protection, it’s best to invest in something that not only sits on the paint, but actually bonds to it, seals up the molecular gaps, and most importantly, lasts a long time and will not wear off by simple everyday activities. And for that kind of protection, you’ll have to look farther than just a regular 9H designation – you need nanotechnology!
The CS-II Ceramic Coating that we use at SR International sets a new standard for automotive protection – it is incredibly durable, exceptionally effective, and requires nothing more than a thin, one-time application. This is because it’s formulated to adhere to the paint below it, and fill in any minute imperfections at a molecular level, leading to a smooth surface that cannot be easily penetrated by dust, organic debris, or even a pressure washer stream.
If you’re extra serious about your vehicle’s paint protection, you can’t get any better than our premium coating, the CS-II Titanium. This 2-stage process coating packs the punch of the ceramic version, but adds an extra crystalline layer that offers unparalleled resistance to everything that a road vehicle encounters when you drive it.
So look for more than just the 9H code on the bottle that you buy – after all, you want your investment to deliver for years to come. Our crew at SR International in Calgary, Alberta is ready to help you choose the solution that’s best for you – whether it’s a coating, a film, a sealant, hydrophobic glass treatment, or one of our many other products – and we are passionate about making sure you drive away happy. Car Coating Maintenance
So you finally made the decision and went ahead with some of the best paint protection you can get for your vehicle’s paint job. Nicely done! Whether you started with the Vision 50 to see how it holds up, or you went straight for the CS-II Titanium for extreme protection, you made the right choice. But now, as time goes on, you find yourself wondering: what’s the best way to make sure these coatings stay effective?
Contrary to what you might think, even though the coatings are durable, tough, and long-lasting, they do require maintenance in order to work to their top potential. Regular driving through dusty highways and roads, debris from the wind and the rain, insect and animal pollutants, and environmental substances like sap all have a detrimental effect on the overall quality of the coating. On top of that, in Calgary the roads are graded with gravel and salt, which makes a corrosive mud that will stick to your vehicle and slowly – but surely! – eat away at anything beneath it. Obviously, the more you can avoid this, the longer your coating will last!
The first step is to make sure you wash your car enough. In the winter, many vehicles get washed far less frequently than in the spring and summer, which means all the grime sticks to it for a long time, causing a degradation in the hydrophobic properties. Simply washing your car or truck once a week with mild soap can greatly contribute to keeping your paint protection in good shape.
Beyond that, another good habit to be in is to bring your vehicle in for a yearly decontamination process after winter. Our paint protection technicians use specialized chemical, a specific type of clay bar, and a microfiber cloth to pick up contaminants from your paint and get rid of them safely and properly. While this procedure can be done yourself (and any degree of it is better than nothing), you simply can’t beat the knowledge and tools that our technicians have when it comes to keeping your coating fresh.
So whether you have the most expensive paint protection, or the least (it doesn’t matter – they both need the same maintenance to keep operating at peak level), continue your good investment by taking care of it all through the year! A proper coating on a vehicle can keep the paint looking stylish and new for months, or even years, when it’s maintained well. And there’s no feeling like driving down a busy street in a ride that shines strongly enough to turn heads!
If you need assistance on keeping your coating up to the level you like, or if you want more information on how to get one for your vehicle, talk to the professional and knowledgeable staff at SR International in Calgary, Alberta. We can even protect your windows, rims, leather, and fabric with some of the leading products in the automotive world! Give us a call at 403-230-1166 or or even find us on Facebook and Instagram. We can’t wait to show you what we can do!
Ceramic Car Coating in Calgary
At the car wash, you’ve likely seen the button on the machine that lets you apply a wax to your car – supposedly to get a nice shine and a protective seal over the paint of your car. But how effective can it really be? You spray it on, let it sit for a minute, and then rinse it off again…does it really do anything? And if not, where can you find something that does?
It’s as easy as this: ceramic car coating.
Usually you don’t think of automotive paint jobs and ceramic coating going together, but it’s true – the next generation of car paint protection is a highly resistant and hydrophobic compound that can be likened to the hardness and luster of ceramic. CS-II International has developed this coating to not only protect your vehicle’s paint job from extreme heat, cold, dust, and impacts, but also to keep it clean and shiny throughout all the hurdles that your driving conditions can throw at you.
A ceramic car coating uses extremely precise nanotechnology that allows part of its molecular structure to interlock with the molecules in your paint, resulting in a semi-permanent coating that provides a long-term shine and resistance while only needing a single, thin application. This car coating cannot be washed off like a wax, and will not come off with water, alkaline, soaps or detergents, or even pressure washers, and it will greatly reduce penetration of heat, cold, and UV into the sensitive paints below.
Ceramic car coatings also protect from scratches, colour fading, rust, oxidation and corrosion, chemical wear, and other environmental contaminants, such as those from bird droppings or bugs. They last longer than other waxes, yet require neither additional cure time during application nor special shampoo or cleaning solutions afterward. In fact, another bonus of these coatings is that there is a hydrophobic component built in, which means water and contaminants will run directly off the ceramic coating and onto the ground – leaving your finish clear, reflective, and looking like it just came out of the dealership showroom!
If you’re serious about keeping your vehicle in tip-top shape, then ceramic car coatings are just one option that’s available to you. At SR International, we have many to choose from to suit all kinds of budgets and styles – ranging from the full Titanium package, to total paint protection film, to glass coatings that make it easier to see when it’s raining, and much more. Head over to our Interior and Exterior products (did you know we even do fabric and leather coating?) and browse to see what we’ve got for you.

The SR International Car Paint Protection Process
As one of the leaders in automotive paint protection, the techniques used at SR International go far beyond the usual spray-on coatings that you might find elsewhere. With a focus not only on high-quality protection, but on a final result that you’ll be proud to show off and recommend, we’re committed to making each vehicle we treat look as good as it did in the new car showroom.
Are you wondering how we do it? Here’s a quick walkthrough of our car paint protection process that we give to every car or truck that comes in to our shop. From top to bottom, we offer a whole new level of paint protection that’s impossible to miss!
1. Hand Wash
Many shops and car washes use foam brushes or other abrasives to do the first round of cleaning on your vehicle’s exterior. But this can actually damage the integrity of the paint! The bristles themselves may be too stiff, or even worse, dirt, small pebbles, and other particles trapped in the brush can scrape or scratch the paint surface. Because of this, we cover the whole vehicle using a foam gun and high quality soap solution that cleans and degreases as it drips, and after a few minutes to soak, we rinse it off without the use of brushes. This allows any built-up dirt to naturally flow off and away.
2. The Clay Bar
Over time, microscopic dust particles pile up on your car paint and create an uneven, bumpy surface – to see for yourself, simply run your hand across your hood and feel it under your fingertips. If this debris doesn’t come off with a regular wash, it will require a little more attention, which is where the clay bar comes in.
Clay bars, when used with proper lubrication, act as a smoothing agent that gets rid of all the surface imperfections on your paint surface. We use these bars to make a smooth, level surface for our vehicle coatings to adhere to – and it shows! The smoother the surface, the shinier and more reflective it seems when we’re done.
3. Power Polishing
If you’ve already driven your car or truck for a while, chances are you have some minor cosmetic scratches or rock chips that you might not even be aware of. To minimize the effect of these, we go over every inch of the exterior to check for any imperfection, and use a Dual Action power polisher to smooth out any rough edges. These polishers use a high-quality compound and a foam pad to restore your vehicle paint back to its original shine, and can sometimes remove small scratches entirely. It ensures that the paint below the final protective coating is in its best possible condition before it’s sealed.
4. Lint-free Wipes and Final Cleaning
After all of this polishing and cleaning, dust and other debris can be scattered across the paint surface, so it’s necessary to do another cleaning before the coating is applied. We rinse off the exterior and use a microfiber cloth to wick away all remaining moisture and the silicon particles trapped in it. After all this, we’re finally ready to apply the car coating!
5. The Application
The specifics of this step will vary slightly based on the level of coating you’re getting, but the basics are the same. Using a single applicator, we start at one end of the vehicle and cover every panel of the exterior, making sure to cover whole sections at a time for consistency. This coating is allowed to soak in for a while, adhering to the top of the paint layer and solidifying into a strong, impermeable barrier before the excess is removed. The final result is a seal that protects from moisture, impacts, UV radiation, temperature fluctuations, and natural corrosives (like bird droppings). The hydrophobic component causes water to flow off as well, making car washes a breeze for years to come. And as an added bonus, as this step is done the sealant settles by itself, creating a totally smooth and level surface that is highly reflective – giving your vehicle a shine that you just can’t get anywhere else.
Once the product has been applied and the excess removed, the vehicle is ready to go! With an unbelievable level of renewed shine, you’ll be turning heads as soon as you’re back on the road. That is our unmatched car paint protection process!
CS-II Car Coatings
You got the hardest part out of the way: finding yourself a new vehicle that drives, feels, and above all, looks great. Vehicles are one of the biggest investments you’ll make through your life, and you want to make sure that yours stays at its best for as long as possible. You've heard of CS-II Car Coatings but what's their deal? You trust your engine to the mechanics, and you know you’ll keep it clean, but what can you do about the paint job – the part of your car or truck that is hit the heaviest by freezing cold and baking sun, rock chips, bird droppings, tree sap, and dozens of other weathering agents?
You can get the ultimate in car paint protection.
These days, a simple wax coating and polish just isn’t enough. You need a protective layer that not only keeps your vehicle looking its best, but offers inherent hardness, shine, and resistance to chemicals and temperature. And there’s only one brand that will provide all of this in one package, and last for years after it’s applied – and that’s CS-II.
CS-II car coatings are developed by a detailer, specifically for detailers. Founded in Singapore in 1995, they’ve had more than two decades to perfect their formula, and since the start have proudly maintained their status as a manufacturer – not just a label that goes on the bottle. And since 2011, they’ve had a branch in California due to the increasing demand in North America.
What makes CS-II Car Coatings Different?
Many after-market car coatings now put a single layer of SiO2 quartz molecules over your paint – which is somewhat effective, BUT... doesn’t account for the many gaps between the large molecules, where water and chemicals can intrude and wear it away quickly. CS-II car coatings, unlike the others, have a unique interlocking system of molecules, comprised of three distinct layers that perform three different functions.
In CS-II car coatings, the silica layer makes the coating hard and durable; the nitrogen layer fills in the gaps to create an impenetrable barrier and further bond the quartz together; and the fluorine layer adds a super-hydrophobic component, further protecting from invasive water droplets. The end result is a long-lasting and unbeatable coating that keeps your paint looking fresh and new, while also offering supreme resistance.
The benefits go beyond just the coating itself, though. Because of this interlocking system, and due to the efficiency of the application method invented by Richard Lin of Show Car Detailing in Anaheim, we can achieve a thicker coat the first time – so additional reapplications of resins or boosters are unnecessary. The only maintenance needed is regular washing and a once-in-a-while decontamination of the top layer if the vehicle has been through some heavy use. Because CS-II is air-cured, no baking is required, either – which will save a lot of wear and tear on your paint and body panels through the process.
CS-II doesn’t need any expensive products to maintain, and has several different coating options to suit your budget – though, overall, it can be more affordable than other coatings that require several layers to apply. And the best part? CS-II has a strict certification program for all installers, which means that anyone who is using it has been highly trained and tested on their abilities. When it comes to taking care of your paint job, there is simply no better option than CS-II’s Glass, Ceramic Coatings, or Titanium Coatings.
And who better to apply those coatings than the people who are licensed Canadian distributors and trainers of the process and materials? Visit SR International today, at 80-4797 22nd Street SE Calgary, Alberta, to find out how you can get a CS-II protective coating for your vehicle, and have it looking new for years to come. If you’re unsure, just have a look at our online reviews and you’ll quickly see what a good investment it is!
The True Cost Of Keeping Your Car Protected
We’ve all been there in some form or another: stuck behind that semi truck on Deerfoot Trail, driving under a horde of pigeons, parked below a sap-oozing pine tree, barreling through the swaths of insects that flood the prairies and foothills every summer….however it happens, we all know the annoyance of dealing with rock chips, bug guts, bird droppings, and all the rest of the problems that pop up while we’re driving. When you throw in the extreme temperature range between summer and winter, the salt on our roads, and the mud and grit of long commutes around the city – it’s a wonder our vehicles ever look good at all!
So all this goes to show – protecting your vehicle, which is many people’s most expensive investment, is serious business. But are those fancy coatings really any better than the sealants and wax that your dad has sworn by for years? Do long, scientific-sounding names translate to better protection against the elements? And is it really worth it to spend your money on something that you can’t even see?
Well, as it turns out – yes, they are; yes, they do; and yes, it is!
Think about it. The first thing you look at when you’re noticing, or buying, or admiring a vehicle, is how it looks on the outside. Nobody looks twice at a rusted, old sedan, but if you go past in an immaculate and shiny car – heads will turn! Now, traditional waxes and sealants look great – for about a day or two, and then they wear away, even without the help of rain or snow. Even medium- and pro-grade waxes would take endless removals and reapplications to make them worth the trouble of having them in the first place. And at the end of the day, you want a product that will last long, do what it’s supposed to, and ideally have additional benefits as well (like increasing the resale value of your vehicle).
That’s where we come in.
When you factor in the costs of car washes, wax supplies, reapplications, time spent maintaining sub-par products, inconvenience, and money lost off the top if you ever choose to sell your vehicle, the best choice becomes clear: investing in one of our top-of-the-line, ultimate finish protection solutions. Equipped with CS-II Premium coatings, we have various grades to suit your needs, ranging from simple glass coverage to a complete vehicle package that is guaranteed to protect your paint job for years to come.
And for an investment as large as your vehicle, that’s exactly what you should be going for. A long-term solution that keeps giving back long after the initial cost has been paid off.
So if you want to learn more about our coatings, or to book your vehicle in to get one, give SR International a call at 403.230.1166 or come to visit us in northeast Calgary at #105-2845 23 St NE (just off Barlow Trail). You can see some of our Titanium Coating in action in this video or even see how we can help protect your car interior as well with our fabric sealant (it’s perfect for anyone with kids). We look forward to meeting you and seeing how we can make your vehicle look its best – and stay that way!
Second only to houses, cars are usually among the most expensive things that people will own throughout their lives. Whether you’ve gotten a great deal on a pre-owned vehicle or you’ve finally driven your brand-new dream car away from the dealership, it’s an investment that you’ve made towards your future, and you want it to last. This isn’t just about what’s under the hood, though – it’s always important to keep your vehicle looking good.
The quality of the paint job is the first thing that people notice about any vehicle, and the difference between a good one and a bad one is staggering. While the sheen and gloss of a great paint job is always satisfying to see, paint does more than just show off your fashion sense – it protects the underlying metal, prevents rust, and mitigates scratches and abrasions. It’s the first line of defense against the elements as you drive, and without it, vehicles would rust and fall apart in no time.
But what happens when even this protective layer of paint needs protection? After all, there are plenty of nasty chemicals out there that will eat away at it – tree sap, bird droppings, acid rain – and all it takes are a few badly-placed rock chips to allow moisture and rust to invade. Is there a product that will raise the defenses on your car’s vulnerable areas, while making its paint look even better than new, for years to come?
Well, as it happens – yes, there is!
For a long time, the only option available to car owners were wax coatings. Whether they were natural (like carnauba) or synthetic, the big issue was this: they are very short-lived! They had gloss and minor protection, but sunlight, rain, and simply the passage of time would wear it away in a matter of days to weeks. After this came the age of paint sealants, which are polymers derived from amino functional fluids. While they last a bit longer – 3 to 6 months – the thin coating is ineffective against cleaners with solvents and corrosive natural chemicals.
That brings us to now – the third generation of paint protection. At SR International, we use the CS-II series: a no-paste, no-wax formula that is specially designed to work on all finishes and varnishes. It uses nanotechnology to interlock the molecules of the coating with the paint in a titanium crystal layer that is the finest automotive paint protection on the planet. This coating is second-to-none when it comes to protecting your vehicle’s paint.
Before we apply the coating, we permanently remove scratches from your current paint job. In addition to offering superb future scratch resistance, preventing rust and corrosion, maintaining high-gloss sheens, and reducing cleaning costs, the coatings are also “super-hydrophobic” and will not be removed by using water. This means that one investment will last you for years – yes, years!
If you’re serious about protecting your car through the wild fluctuations of Calgary weather (and its notorious roads, full of winter gravel), then there is no other solution that even comes close to SR International’s paint protection coating. It’s November and Calgary has had its first blast of icy winter weather. While the blowing snow, fog, early darkness, and slippery roads are all parts of winter driving that we have to deal with, many people overlook another aspect that can cause just as much damage over the long term.
When your vehicle comes off the assembly line, the paint has a factory sealant on it that is there to protect against the elements – and in turn, against rust and corrosion. In Canada’s harsh weather conditions – constant warming and cooling, wet, heavy snowfalls, massive hailstorms – this coating fades quickly, and is often not enough to really do the job that it needs to do. Add in the fact that our city’s streets get a liberal coating of salt and gravel to help de-ice them all winter long, and that we wash our cars less because it’s cold outside – now you’ve got a perfect recipe for a failing paint job, which not only look bad, but can mean costly repairs when sections rust away or corrode underneath.
So what can be done about this?
Many places will claim that wax or a simple paint sealant are enough – but that’s what came out of the factory, and they just don’t stand up to the weather or acidic debris like bird waste or tree sap. It’s not enough to keep your car protected down to the metal over the long haul. That’s why we at SR International in Calgary use the expertly-developed CS-II specialized paint coating.
Not just a flimsy film, our incredible CS-II Paint Protection Coating uses a superior no-wax, no-paste formula that is specifically designed to work with all finishes and varnishes. It uses a combination of polymers and resin to create a thick and durable, yet incredibly tough, layer of protection on all exterior paint surfaces, including alloys. It allows your paint to flex with the temperature, and best of all, it requires no maintenance other than regular washing. This coating will not be removed through washing or with chemical cleaners – it’s a lot tougher than that! Only machine polishing will remove it once it has cured.
If you’re still not convinced that will be enough to protect your vehicle – like if you do lots of driving in areas with loose gravel or truck traffic – then take a look at our Paint Protection Film. It’s the most effective method of keeping your vehicle chip- and scratch-free while you’re on the road. Applied to heavily-hit areas like the hood, fenders, mirrors, and pillars, the thermoplastic urethane film has memory cells built in that transfer impact energy over a wider area, meaning that rocks, bugs, and other debris will have far less ability to ruin your paint and shine. It even has a self-healing quality that allows light scratches and abrasions to “heal” out of the film when heat is applied. It also improves your vehicle’s resale value by keeping the front end in great condition for much longer.
We use Suntek Paint Protection Film (though we will use 3M if you would prefer), as Suntek has superior optical clarity, ease of installation and warranty. When this film is installed, your car will look like it just rolled out of the showroom for a long time to come!
Now is the perfect time to take action on this, before the really cold weather hits us here in Calgary. To get hooked up with professional CS2 Paint Protection Coating or Suntek Paint Protection Film be sure to visit SR International at 105-2845 23 St NE, or call us at 403-230-1166 to find out how we can help your car get protected for this winter and beyond!
